We heard that when a kid shows interest in the porcelain piece it is a sign that it is time to start potty training (per Gammie). Having no reason to doubt this advice, besides my lifelong issue with toilet paper I did what I always do, I went online to research and read reviews on "potty seats" to find the best one. Who knew that there was such a diverse market for this product? The term "bells and whistles" most certainly was first used to describe today's line of pooper porches: glow in the dark toilets, sing song toilets that play music, ones with side handles, and serious product license seats like "Bob the Builder", "Dora", "mom's little helper". They pretty much fit into 6 categories: folding, travel, soft, flip, portable and disposable.
I find it odd that there are so many different features available for a new toilet user but so few for advanced users. It is kind of like having a new driver learn on a Lamborghini but restricting long time users to a Volkswagen. It would be interesting to hear about what features poopers would like added to today's vanilla porcelain: TV, video games, wireless access, a poop cleaning option that doesn't involve rolling up wads of paper, etc.
Sorry, I digress (quickly), so back to the research. From the plethora of reviews I read one model came up on a regular basis - the Baby Bjorn Potty Chair in classic white, so that is the one I went with. Besides the simple, yet durable construction there is also a "splash guard" which should prove to be helpful with the boy.
Anyways, Caden really likes the seat; the first day he added some personal touches to make it his own. Everyday since then he has spent some time "with" the seat, usually adding more personal touches. Maybe someday he will use it as a different kind of canvas.
