I know that I give Boy Wonder a lot of leeway; maybe its that he his a first child or that he has "older" parents or maybe it is just because he has super powers, I really don't know. Sometimes he proves that the leeway is justified, okay not really, but he does certainly know how to spice things up every now and again. Today for example...
I don't know about you but we are relatively snowed in, we have six inches of snow and another inch of ice (for you east coast readers, the snow level here is like dog years in comparison to yours; our six inches is equivalent to your 42 inches when comparing the amount of metropolitan mobility). The Boy's Mom took the car with chains for the tires, to do one of those things she does, and will be gone for most of the day. That leaves BW and I essentially cabin bound for the day which wouldn't be so bad except that it is the third day in a row.
Now that the scene is set, the Boy and I had spent the morning making a train out of six boxes, twelve tops to diet coke 8 packs and seven paint stir sticks and we were, for lack of another visual, rolling along. After the train we were "inspired" to watch a couple of episodes of Thomas the Tank Engine, who incidentally is a major player in the upcoming winter holiday celebration. However, as any parent will tell you it is only possible to take so much "Peep peep peeping along" and we moved on to our next activity, attempting to take a nap. After half an hour of unsuccessful persuasion techniques including me laying in the bed with him, where I fell asleep and he didn't, we called it quits.
The old standby in my repertoire of parenting, or for that matter my repertoire in pretty much anything, is baking cookies, so we broke out the old cinnamon chips and started making what I call cinnamon coins (for those near and dear to me you know of what I speak, for the rest of you just send money). It was during the final batch of said coins that the event de jour occurred.
The cookies were in the oven most of the pans were safely in the sink. One of Boy Wonder's favorite things to do is to help wash the dishes (obviously we expect this attitude to change by the time he is a teenager). He likes to stand on one of the kitchen chairs, fill the pans up with water and stir the spoons around while "cleaning". Now back to that leeway...After checking the temperature, I left the water running and went into the office... for a few minute and that is when I heard it... the dreaded silence..., that can only mean one thing, your kid is either on their boundary of right and wrong or completely over it. Here is a reenactment of what I witnessed as I returned to the kitchen..
Then only difference between the reenactment and the actual event was in reality the water was shooting out from the sink like an elephant blowing his nose. That and BW wasn't smiling as much because he knew he was busted.
I did manage to take one picture during the actual event, but it is hard to get a good photo when you are yelling at your subject. Also, I wonder what the ramifications are of disciplining, okay screaming, at Boy Wonder and then making him pose in the disaster area as well as reenact the crime, on his psyche. Maybe this is how he will build "character", if not there is always therapy.
You may want to click on the photo and enlarge it to get the full ramification of "the flood".
