Saving The Planet

I’m happy to share that I start work at an Energy Conservation Non Profit on Feb 23 as a Program Manager for their Energy Smart Grocer Program. Essentially I will be working with a majority Utility to help them meet their federally mandated energy conservation requirements.  My program's focus is working with the Utility's grocery and other refrigeration clients and helping them save Kilowatt hours through technology enhancements.

I'm very excited about the position, the company and its vision.  It has been awhile since I was part of "the working world" and am looking forward to returning to adult conversation.

As my job search wraps up, I took a few minutes and compiled a few statistics from my search that you may find interesting:

  • Total resumes sent: 333
  • Phone Interviews: 47
  • In person Interviews: 42
  • Information Interviews: 8
  • Total recruiters worked with: 6
  • Total times I heard I was the number two candidate: 5
  • Shortest in person interview: 8 minutes.  It was mutual (and I think I had a hangover).
  • Most useful technological tool for getting interviews: LinkedIn.com (if you aren't on it, get on it)
  • Most number of interviews at one company: 11 which included 19 different people.  Thank goodness I got the job :-)
  • Most interesting interview:  One company that focused on recent grads (although I didn't know it at the time) had 10 people come in at the same time for an "orientation interview".  Two interviewers asked us questions and we went around the room giving answers.  I was the only person in the room over 23, including the interviewers.
  • Best quote from an interview:  After telling the COO of a company my compensation at my last job, he asked me "if my old position was still available"
  • Second best quote:  In a panel interview I was asked "how comfortable I was working in an environment where the freak flag is flown on a regular basis?"

Ah, the good old days.  To think I am putting all this aside to save the planet.

This is amazing. I may use this someday, with permission, of course.
